Yes, and Add Appreciation
By responding to communication with a “yes” attitude and appreciation, you can add a boost of creativity and fun.
How to do it
- When responding to a speaker, find the content in what they’re saying that you can say “yes” to from you body.
- Take a few belly breaths as you notice what yes feels like in your body.
- Respond with an appreciation that adds to what the person has just said, such as, “I’m noticing a whole new direction in my thinking from the clarity of your description”
- Notice your aliveness and engagement.
Benefits
- Opens learning to receive fully before responding automatically
- Increases openness to collaboration
- Develops appreciation in action
